I boarded a jet plane this past Friday and traveled 16 hours through the night to Washington, D.C. I was back on a plane again on Monday morning flying the reverse 16 hours back home. I was in Washington with over 40,000 other protesters for the Forward on Climate Rally, to call President Obama to say “no” to the KXL pipeline.
The journey was long and on the way there I read Tim Flannery’s Now or Never, an inspiring (short) read on the state of the planet in the face of climate change. On the way back I was too exhausted to read or do anything productive, so I watched b-movies and contemplated my experience at the largest climate rally in U.S. history. I thought about the KXL pipeline and what it represents at this moment in American/Canadian history. I thought about all of the concerns over the pipeline on both sides. I thought about solutions to climate disruption — solutions that won’t slow our economy or stop commerce, green energy solutions like the advanced carbon-neutral biofuels that should be fueling my jet travel. I thought about how many people are crying out that we need the tar sands pipeline right now for economic stimulation and for job creation. I thought about the hard working citizens who feed their children through oil related jobs. And… I couldn’t help but wonder….
If oil workers could choose, would they choose to work in toxic environments with damaging chemicals, or would they choose to work surrounded by clean air?
If Americans could choose, would they choose to work on the infrastructure for cancer-causing oil power or would they choose to work on the infrastructure for health reviving wind power?
If Canadians could choose, would they choose to dig up their forests, leaving behind barren and filthy wastelands, or would they choose to harvest the sun’s rays and leave behind a legacy for their children?
If people had a choice, what would that choice be?
My reflections on climate choice were abruptly interrupted by the ever more sobering understanding that, right now, so many citizens of our free, democratic nations have no choice. They go to work in the dirty energy sector for lack of a better alternative.
There are jobs to be created on both sides of the climate argument. Whether we are investing in oil or sun, coal or wind, gas or algae, the economy will be stimulated by the investment. The economy, unlike each of us, is not swayed by ideology. So, by the time I touched down at home, I had but one, echoing thought in my mind, one aching plea for the leaders of our “free world”: Please… ask not the people if they want to work, but ask the people what they want to work toward. Even slaves have jobs. A free man should have choice.
As reported earlier this week, Evangeline is currently attendig Forward on Climate Rally in D.C! This post is going to be updated throughout the night with everything we come across – photos, videos, news and more! The only photos I’ve found so far is photos Evangeline has taken herself and shared on her official twitter profile, but I will continue to search and update you all the next hours. On February 17, I am joining tens of thousands of people on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., along with tens of thousands more in cities and towns across the nation, in what will be the largest climate action in US history.
The Piscataway Tribe has graciously extended a welcome to our First Nation guests from British Columbia, Canada, and to ALL of us. Thank you Chief Billy Tayac and thank you everyone who is descending on Washington, DC, from around the nation for the Forward on Climate Rally!

The photos itself are from the official facebook here – which also had some very interesting news!

Hello fellow Evangeline fans! Kudos to the wonderful Sharon, we’ve found a brand new photo of Evangeline, meeting up with Rick Kinsel from The Vilcek Foundation and a woman names Jess Cole during the Hawaii Internation Film Festival. (You can read more about the foundation and festival below). Long time fans of Evi might remember that the foundation gave an exclusive profile on her back in 2010, which can be viewed on their official facebook here. What Evangeline was doing at HIFF is currently unknown, but we will update you as soon as we come across something relevant! A photo from the meeting has been added to our galleries, and we hope to come across more soon. Stay tuned!
The Vilcek Foundation aims to raise public awareness of the contributions of immigrants to the sciences, the arts and culture in the United States. The Foundation was established in 2000 by Jan and Marica Vilcek, immigrants from the former Czechoslovakia. The mission of the Foundation was inspired by the couple’s respective careers in biomedical science and art history, as well as their personal experiences and appreciation for the opportunities offered them as newcomers to the United States.
Since 2007, in recognition of the many talented foreign-born directors, producers, actors, and writers now practicing their craft in this country, the Vilcek Foundation has been sponsoring the New American Filmmakers (NAF) program, in partnership with the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF).
We are proud to announce the 2012 entries to be screened at the 32nd annual Hawaii International Film Festival in Honolulu?“Cinema in Paradise”?held this year from October 11th to the 21st. (Click here for the list)
Hello netters – I’ve got an exiting update for you lot today! On September 15, our girl attented the 64th Emmy Governor Ball with her old LOST co-star Jeremy Davies. She sparkled up the red carpet with her usual bubbly mood and effervescent personality, but with one major change – it seems like she has cut of her long, pretty bangs! She was seen wearing a gorgeous dress in various shades of blue and purple, and showed off her new SHORT hairdo. What do you think of this new look fellow Evangeline fans? Comment with your thoughts below!
At the event, Jeremy received the award “Outstanding Guest Actor In A Drama Series“, and according to various rumors, he even thanked Evangeline in his speech… I’ll try to hunt down a video clip from it, and will let you know the minute I find it!
I’ve only been able to come across 5 photos so far, 3 of which are HQ. I’ll be on the lookout for more though, and I hope to have a bunch up for you all later! Kudos to my good friend Carmel for some of these! Enjoy the pretty new photos in our galleries, and stay tuned for more updates later on here at I Heart Evangeline...
